Surf RockIt’s sunny in England – we’re making the most of it.

5 of our favourite indie Surf Rock tracks of recent times to soundtrack your sunshine-filled July days:

Jagwar Ma – The Throw

It doesn’t get much sunnier than Australia – and this is one from Sydney-based duo Jagwar Ma’s new album, Howlin’. Surf rock at its happy Aussie finest.

Cayucas – High School Lover

They used to be called Oregon Bike Trails – switching to Cayucas to name themselves after a sleepy little seaside town in San Luis Obispo County, California. This is from Bigfoot – out in April on Secretly Canadian. Do they have Surf Rock in Canada?

Mikal Cronin – See It My Way

Guitar Riffs. That’s what to expect in this one from Mikal Cronin. Shredding with crazy loud rock outfit Ty Segall Band over past months is definitely reflected in this track from his 2013 solo album, MCII, released on Merge Records in May.

Temples – Shelter Song

Bit of a rockier edge, with a retro-psychedelia feel – the only band in the 5 who are actually from the UK with Kettering-based Temples. Hmm….isn’t Kettering land-locked? Support slot for The Rolling Stones in Hyde Park last weekend.

and finally….

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Swim and Sleep (Like A Shark)

A project from New Zealand native Ruban Nielson’s, conceived after a move to Portland, Oregon. This track from Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s 2013 album, II, brings our Ode to Sunshine to a close.
