8 Baby Songs
When we say “Baby Songs” what we actually mean, of course, is songs that feature the word “Baby”.
Why are we doing this?
It’s our congratulatory nod to Will & Kate on the birth of the Nation’s bundle of joy!
George Alexander Louis. Clearly they’re reading this.
1. Plug In Baby – Muse
Start strong – is this the first song that came to your minds too? From their 2001 album, Origin of Symmetry, many a uni club night spent singing along to this. Epic.
2. Be My Baby – The Ronettes
Forever intertwined with the Dirty Dancing soundtrack – from a film with a message that every parent wants to hear from their child…”Nobody puts Baby in a corner”. Timeless track from 1963.
3. Baby I Love Your Way – Blue Mountain
Almost didn’t get a mention, but ditched The Supremes to bring you this. Originally written and performed by Peter Frampton – you can’t let Summer pass you by without listening to this song at least once. Big Mountain have a “Best of…” album with 11 tracks on it. Anyone know any of them aside from this one?
4. Baby – The Phenomenal Handclap Band
15 to 20 was a club anthem a few years back – but this one has a bit more soul… ft. a Micah & Jeremiah sample from 1969 (cheers WhoSampled!).
5. Babys – Bon Iver
We found this beautiful live session performed for 4AD/Jagjaguwar Session at London’s AIR Studios back in 2012 – possibly one they can play little George.
6. Baby Got Back – Sir Mix-A-Lot
And one they probably shouldn’t – If you’ve read our Friends Reunite post, you might know this as the one Ross & Rachel played to their baby though…
7. Baby – Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti
Not a sample this time, a straight up cover – of Donnie & Joe Emerson’s “Baby” – so soulful…check the super smooth laugh at 2min 14. One for the Summertime Seduction playlist….
8. Baby I Call Hell – Deap Vally
And finally….playing us out with their Sistronix sisterhood of girls that ROCK, one from LA rockers Deap Vally – for the baby they (thankfully) call George.
Rock baby, soul baby, funk baby, folk baby…or hip hop baby?
Note there is no mention of Justin Bieber. That was on purpose.
