Skate Kings Cross

Welcome to the second instalment of our brand new series! Our tips on unique and unusual events/bars/pubs/places in general – 5 Places to meet your Tastebuds this week, 19 August:

1. Le Louxor – Film Noir (Paris)

Our first tip comes from Paris this week – with a spot of Film Noir at ex-drug den and newly renovated cinema, Louxor. Full listings (in French!) HERE or just book our top pick, The Postman Always Rings Twice on Tuesday evening.

2. Back in 5 Minutes (London)

Brought to you by the folks that run Disappearing Dining Club, Back in 5 Minutes run a Wednesday Dining Club hidden behind a clothes shop on Brick Lane. Something a bit fancy for your mid-week meal – Food is “elegantly European” (Timeout).

3. Skate Kings Cross (London)

Anyone else miss the fluorescent spandex attired pre-teens stumbling about trying to stay on their feet while songs that were released about 10 years before they were born blare in the background? Yes? Then Skate Kings Cross is just what you’re after – Rollerdisco for adults soundtracked by club classics. PLUS wine, burgers and milkshakes. Sequins and cycling shorts at the ready….

4. Ballet School @ Shacklewell Arms (London)

Shoegazey indie from Berlin three-piece Ballet School takes to the Dalston airwaives this Friday for a FREE gig hosted by Paint It Black and Beach Creep. Did we mention it’s FREE? Try before you buy:

5. Backyard Cinema, Camden Lock (London)

Tucked away nicely between lock 17 and the footbridge is a 12ft Cinema Screen that plays host to classic movies viewed from comfy bean bag loungers and deck chairs. This Thursday’s screening, in a film loved by a whopping 98% of critics, Ash seems to have not learnt anything from surviving the first film: Evil Dead II.

Slowly branching out…one from Paris this week! Send over your reccies – for London, the UK or anywhere else! – we’ll include the best of them up here weekly.
